Exhibition "Special of the Sarplaninac breed" in Temerin, Serbia on 17.04.2016

A special exhibition of the Sarplaninac breed was held on April 17th 2016, for the second year in a row in Temerin, a small town in the north of Serbia, more specifically in Backi Jarak, on the grounds of the local hunting society. The organizers, the Kennel Club "Sarac" of Temerin named this event the "Memorial Zoran Brac-Grof" in memory of a recently deceased member, who was especially appreciated by his colleagues for his dedication, his love for the breed and his benevolent advice.
I had a great pleasure to have been invited to judge at this exhibition. I shared the task with my great friend from long date, Mr. Andras Polgar, all-round judge, who came from Slovakia. The delegate was Mrs. Dusica Rebic.
Besides improving the breed, the young club has set as main goal the popularization of this national breed by organizing the annual exhibition and the education and awareness of love for this breed from the very young age. This was shown through the very high participation of children at this event.
We must commend the significant number of participating of exhibitors from the „Srpska Republic of Bosnia“ and those who came from far away: from the south of Serbia, Macedonia, Slovenia and Czech Republic..
My duty was to judge all the females, Mr. Polgar judged the males.
The judgments began after the singing of the national anthem and some touching words in memory of Zoran spoken by Mr Dusko Krsmanovic, president of the Sarplaninac Club of Banja Luka and Mr Misa Babic, organizer of the Memorial Prof. Pavlovic.
Here are some pictures, showing the general atmosphere and the events preceding the judgments:

I must congratulate the young members of the Club for the excellent organization of this exhibition, for their dedication, for their warm welcome to us, the judges, all the participants and also the public who came to admire the dogs who were taking part at the exhibition. The grounds were in proper order, the rings were big, the secretaries of the rings had beautiful handwritings and cooperated well. There was a bit lack of shade in the locality, but the dogs were lucky with the weather: a refreshing wind and the sun veiled by clouds. The "working" day ended with a very tasty meal in a friendly atmosphere.
I must also point out the perfect discipline of the exhibitors, I have noticed no protest, no derogatory remark, everything happened in a very good atmosphere.
Regarding the dogs exhibited, it is confirmed that the atypical, lymphatic dogs are no longer part of those exhibitions "special breed". The overall quality was poor, with the exception of some outperforming dogs.
What are the faults that I found: no common faults, but some backs were not firm enough/too weak, as well with the males as with the females, with the males it appears to be a hereditary fault, in several females there was a lack of long tails, also from the same kennel, the females of the military kennel: too thick lower lips and chests not deep enough, some dogs had too open angulations, a male with titles lacking heavily breast, the chest from profile looked OK. Unlike my previous judgments: no more dental faults. This is a great improvement!
I had some "miniature” dogs, with a perfect movement and I gave them excellent marks.
If I can give a breeding advice for the future, well knowing that we will have you for a few years more, rightly, taking into mind that the males must be between 35-45kg and the females between 30-40kg prescribed by the standard, this goal is now achieved, try in the future to approach the upper limit. This concerns especially the females. Although I have not judged the males, it seems to me that they had the right weight and desirable sizes. I would like them to be like those I've given titles (Jaga, Gala, Alka II, Megi, Alka Funta) or like the magnificent group of females filmed on You-tube during the recent exhibition in Nis!
